Ciaran is an Irish marathon runner and award winning chef living in Auckland, NZ.
Ciaran has always been active and played a number of traditional Irish sports growing up in Ireland. However, it wasn’t until 2014, when on a working holiday in Australia, Ciaran discovered his passion and ability for long distance running after entering the Sydney Marathon to tick “run a marathon” off his bucket list.
A year later, and now living in New Zealand, Ciaran joined a running club and began competing in a number of long distance running competitions. In 2017, with his passion for the sport was still burning high after winning the Christchurch Marathon, Ciaran enlisted the help of a running coach and started professional training. This propelled his speed and cemented his position as one of the top long distance runners in New Zealand.
This year Ciaran ran a 2.18:47 in the Tokyo Marathon which placed him 40th and locally he won the Rotorua marathon with a time of 2.25:39.
When Ciaran isn’t out running, you can find him in the kitchen with his other passion, food. Early on in Ciaran’s career as a chef, he trained under a Michelin star chef, and whist in Australia, Ciaran won two Chef’s Table Gold (NSW) awards.
Ciaran is currently focusing on achieving his dream of competing in the 2020 Olympic in Tokyo.
